Rioooo! Riooooo! Pretty, pretty bird and fair, fair skinned people. Brazil. For the younger readers, you should know the movie "Rio!" and you can see the place of Brazil. From just that movie, we can acknowledge several representations. Darker skinned children have a poorer view when it comes to a lifestyle as we see the little boy who steals the Blu birds. We see a brief image of colored people, but mostly, there are fair skinned people walking and regularly in the street.
Rio, located in Brazil, is only one part of the very beautiful Brazil. Growing up, I've always viewed Brazil to be this travel site for White people with dark hair. A documentary shows us that Brazil is not really only filled with White people. In actuality, Brazil is the second largest nation of Black people. It was an interesting thing to know, too. I want to take note of the representation that we see of everything. In different ways, representation is shown through media, simply walking on the street, what other people look like, and this is what is held as "wanted."
Dates drew a question to ask if Brazil is a racial democracy. The last place to step up and end slavery, Brazil was one of the last places to fully end slavery. To my opinion, slavery is never truly dead. It has only become more structured. Brazil claims that racism is dead. Similarly, America claims that racism is dead. America is known as a "melting pot" when in reality, America is a burned pot. In Brazil, the majority population are Black people. It was a good piece to watch.
